Marshside
I went painting today, and this was the subject of my painting. I think I need to start using acrylics! It's really hard to paint oil en plein air. At least it's hard for me! I need some more training in order to do this well. I got my darks in, but the paint was too wet to start with the lights. But I loved the peaceful, but colorful scene. As an added bonus, the band at the marshside restaurant behind me was warming up, and they weren't half bad (and were far enough away to be merely background music!)

I love the contrast in this one. Either element - the dock and waters or the colorful boats - would've been beautiful on their own but I love the mix!
Can I put in a request for a future photo of the day to be the painting of this picture? :-)
You can request it, but I don't have high hopes for the painting....I don't feel like I got a good start on it, and it's often hard to correct a painting gone haywire. But yeah, if it turns out at all, I'll post it!
Love the vibrant color!
Oh, and I've posted my picture for today now. :P
beautiful-- the peaceful glassy water and the lively bright colors of the canoes make an interesting contrast.
Do you ever use mediums that speed up the drying time? I haven't yet as I don't have much oil experience...

Lisa! No I really haven't done a whole lot of experimentation with mediums. I guess I've kinda looked at it as one more thing I need to learn about, and I've got plenty to learn about already! I've tried walnut oil, and I like it, but it slows drying time, so I don't use it much, especially for something like this. It can get overwhelming to try to read what potions people try for mediums! But I think you're right, for doing plein air I ought to mix up some Liquin with my colors. Good to see you!
