It never once crossed my mind to measure the circumference of the huge oak at my childhood home. I'm going to get my mother to do so! I love oak trees--spent a good part of my childhood up in one...reading. This photo stimulates lots of good memories. :-)

Oh, you should do that! This one had a plaque that gave all the info. It's on the Clemson campus.

That one branch practically reaches out and grabs you. My kids would be up there in one split second, never to return. So cool!

What a great climbing tree for disappearing with a book for a while :)

Yes, it is amazing that as far out as I am from the trunk the branches are still enormous!

One of my favorite things about SC! I love those oaks. Good capture and fun to see Clemson! I hope you'll take more pictures of the campus. :)

Beautiful old tree and a great shot of it. We have the "Treaty Oak" in our city (downtown).....and would you believe I've never been to it or taken pictures? Got to remedy that.

I finally got Mama to measure our oak. She says 18 feet in circumference and "112 feet across branches," which I assume means spread. It's an amazing tree and one of many on our property (which is for sale, sadly).
