Cows at 45 mph

Loved the light this afternoon but didn't have time to stop and take a proper photo, so I just rolled down the window and clicked.

It feels weird.

The first day of the rest of his life

All he took with him...a Bible and a toothbrush. And I think they'll issue him another toothbrush.

They gave us a list of what he'll be generally doing in boot camp: exotic things such as Pugil Sticks & NIghttime Rappeling, ominous things such as Innoculations III & Gas Chamber, stuff you'd rather not know about: Chokes & Bayonet Techniques, and even a few things to look forward to: after 11 weeks, Four Hours of "Recruit Liberty", and of course, Graduation.

The faucet series

These are the first two in the series based on my faucet photos.

Workspace

I'm working on a series of pieces for school that has kept me up late and gotten me up early. This photo was from 6 am Saturday. You might recognize the photos that these pieces were based upon if you've read my blog awhile. Each piece is created by taping off sections, cutting the tape with an xacto knife, painting the section, then peeling off the tape and moving on to the next section. It's maddening. Each of the three 8x10 pieces has between 10-15 hours of work in it. I finished this one, the third, Saturday night. I still have two large projects due Tuesday, so I can't even sit back and feel satisfied. Also I have a killer cold/headache/scratchy throat which started Friday afternoon. And of course, Grayson leaves this morning for Parris Island. Not my most fun weekend ever, by any stretch of the imagination.

Gray really gets into quesadillas

This is how he came to dinner last night. I'm really going to miss that boy when he leaves Sunday!!

Leaving Edisto

There's always this friendly native to bid you farewell.

Back to the real world

This is what I was doing a few days ago; but it seems like longer than that! I'm snowed under with school projects and laundry.

Bell Buoy

This Edisto landmark is closing this year. The decline in the local fishing economy, combined with escalating land prices for development, are responsible. I think it's a shame. I bought 3 pounds of fresh 20-count shrimp and some fish for tonight's dinner, and a T shirt to remember it by.

Sex in the salon

At my hair cut yesterday, I saw this message staring at me.

Interstate 85

Some days I feel as though I live my life on this road. Tuesday I took my daughter back to college, and travelled north. Most other days, I head south to take the boys to school. In fact, if I want to go to the doctor, the vet, shops, downtown, the airport, or church, I get on 85.

Homecoming photo

I never explained to Mike what homecoming is: It's a big game and dance where former graduates are invited especially to come back to the school and visit. This is a photo from the school's website, so I didn't take it. But Laura had wanted a photo of the primping, and this was the best I could do.

Creepy crawlies

It's always in October that I discover the creepiest critters!

Welcome to my house

Casualty of the food chain

Farmer's Market

I'm not a huge fan of mums, but I did like seeing them all massed together on my trip to the farmer's market.

Peak day for goldenrod

This bank of goldenrod lines the drive in to my art classes....I waited until the absolute perfect day to snap this one; and I was right....it's been downhill since Tuesday, when this was shot.

...Like a proverbial bat outta hell

My Monday routine involves taking Zeus for a long walk on the golf course, since it is closed Mondays. So I can turn him loose and let him chase squirrels to his heart's content. I love the early morning light of October, and thought this captured both of our enjoyment of Monday morning.

Apologies

I misplaced my cable to download pics....and just found it a minute ago. I'll get caught up this weekend! Sorry.

Homecoming

Yesterday was the boys' high school homecoming game and dance. It was funny having a houseful of boys getting ready for the dance, washing cars, scraping together money for dinner, entering the scary world of ordering corsages, and (dare I say) primping.

Guest Photographer: my dad

Dad took this photo and gave me the following info about it: The star cactus bloom is about 8-10 inches from tip to tip. It starts to open in late morning and takes about 15 to 20 minutes to fully open. The twisted tip behind the fully opened flower will probably open later today. Beautiful flower but it has a terrible odor!

American, darling

How much wood would...

A man from a wildlife rescue and rehabilitation organization had this woodchuck in his arms. The woodchuck seemed pretty content to sit there and look cuddly. Maybe he's trying to figure out how much wood would a woodchuck chuck (if a woodchuck could chuck wood)...

Can you guess?

...what two things I ate for lunch today? (Hint: they're both round and yummy). Not exactly what you'd call a classic combination, but plenty of calories and fat grams!

Community bulletin board

This restaurant displays posters for all sorts of local goings-on. I liked the reflection of a city sidestreet.

Perfect fall day

It was a convertible kind of day.
