Palm Sunday

On days like this, I love being Catholic. It's all very moving: the procession with palm fronds, the a capella chants and hymns, the gospel reading (during which the congregation shouts, "Crucify him! Crucify him!"), the incense, the veiled statuary... the whole experience. It really makes Holy Week more meaningful for me.

I can understand why those traditions make you appreciate your Catholicism even more. I'd like to participate in that kind of experience sometimes.

We do the same in the Episcopal Church (also called Catholic Lite by some). I agree, the traditions of Holy Week, Good Friday, Maundy Thursday, all make this time of year the most special. Of course, the preparation through lent helps intensify it as well. Nice shot--great minds and all of that.

Marrow, if you go on Good Friday (usually at noon or 3 pm) there is a similar service...but stripped of organ and festivity.

Sorry, I hold my family back from experiencing the Catholic tradition. Not that I have anything against them going, I just am not interested. I was raised Catholic, and things like this...seeing them exactly the same year after year, kind of numbed the experience for me. I guess there is something to be learned by repetition though. For me there was no real-ness.

I loved those palm crosses as a kid. Favorite church Sunday of the year. Gorgeous capture.

Jeff, If it didn't feel real I would probably want to ditch it, too. :-)
Beth - Glad you found your way over here! Hope you'll visit often.
